Asbestos is a very dangerous material for all people that come into contact with it, which is why it should either be removed or maintained properly. It is important that those removing the asbestos have the required equipment and training to deal with such a material. Here is some more detailed information on how the removal companies deal with asbestos and the hazards it poses to peoples health;

How Asbestos Affects Your Health

After long periods of exposure to asbestos it has been proven that it can cause two types of cancer effecting the lungs. It can also cause many breathing problems due to the damage it causes to the lungs. With such serious health risks it is vital that any building containing asbestos whether it is domestic or commercial keeps to the high standards of maintenance or has it removed.

Regulations Surrounding Asbestos

There are many regulations regarding the use of asbestos these especially need to be acted upon in the case of commercial buildings with employees. Companies that have staff required to work in areas with asbestos levels in the air will have to adhere by guidelines such as these ;

  • Employees are not to be exposed to air affected by asbestos fibres for more than a continuous period of 10 minutes.
  • People working around asbestos should be provided with the right respiratory equipment.
  • They will be required to carry out tests on air samples to determine what the level of asbestos is in that area.

Removing Asbestos

Professional asbestos removal companies will use a variety of tools to remove asbestos from buildings ensuring the greatest care is taken to keep the people working with it safe. To remove the asbestos they would soak the asbestos or asbestos cement with water to reduce the amount of dust produced, they would then remove the affected materials in as large a pieces as they possibly can. These pieces would then be placed in labelled bags to be disposed of correctly, you would have to dispose of the asbestos waste separately to normal waste. If you hire a removals specialist then they should be able to remove the waste and dispose of it in the correct way for you, even if you were to remove the asbestos from the building yourself it would be much safer to have an asbestos specialist dispose of it for you.
