Skip Hire

There will come a time in most of our lives when you will require the services of a skip hire company. Skip hire is a service provided by specialist companies that provide you with the means to dispose of certain kinds of waste (i.e. building waste, garden waste, furniture, etc).

How to Order a Skip

When you come to order a skip you will find that a specially designed truck will come out to wherever you require your skip and deliver it. The skip will then be left until you have either finished with it or the skip is full. When this happens the skip will then be picked up by the same kind of truck which delivered it in the first place, from then on the container will be taken away and the rubbish/waste disposed of accordingly (the local landfill or recycling factory). When the skip is loaded onto the back of the truck, the skip must be covered in order to stop any debris falling off and causing any accidents or damage.

What is a skip?

Rubbish skips are open topped containers of various sizes (depending on how much waste needs to be moved), which are designed to be strong and also the right size to be able to fit on the back of the truck used to transport it. Skip services are mainly designed to transport open top loads from places of construction or demolition, but can also be used for vast a majority of other waste disposal purposes. Skips can also be used for jobs such as clearing out council houses that have recently been vacated by particularly messy residents. Building supplies can be delivered to site using a skip, which could later be used to carry the site's waste away.

It has been known for an empty skip to be lifted high by a crane and used as an emergency platform for rescue workers to work from.

Filling a Skip

To load your skip you can do this in a number of ways which could be as follows:

  • A plank could rest on one side of the skip to allow a wheel barrow to be run up it and tip waste in
  • Objects could simply be lifted or even thrown into the skip
  • The door which is at one end of the skip could be pulled down for ease of access
